Once upon a time in Austria in the year 1893 our hotel participated at the very famous Tirol hunter exhibition and took the first place.
It was awarded by his excellence Lord Brandis. The very nice wooden “Stuben” have been crafted by the quite famous woodworker Mr. Kolli. A rich man from South America bought a sketch and rebuild a copy of the house in Brazil.
After the exhibition the original hotel moved to Igls, and since that time it was opened for every guest. The old part of the hotel stayed the same till nowadays; there are: the old “Stube” at the ground floor, two wooden museum “Stube” at the first floor (as a restaurant) and a nostalgic room (room 212).
At the early 20th century it was a house, where you could buy a glass of wine or schnaps for the same price – one coin. The old name of the coin was “Batzen”. That’s why our hotel has such a name “Batzenhausl”, that means it was a house where you could enjoy schnaps and wine.
There are many “Batzenhausl” in Austria, usually they placed on the cross of main roads. Already in the roman empire the “Via Claudia Augusta” was passing by the “Batzenhäusl”. The “Via Claudia Augusta” Was one of the most important trading routes in the antique world. We are situated right on the crossroads Germany/Italy/Austria/Switzerland. Our opinion is, that there is no place in whole Austria where it is so good and convenient for tourists as in Igls.
The hotel was owned by the family Arnold for several decades. But now the new owners renovated the whole hotel.
The new gourmet restaurant serves typical Austrian food as well as international cuisine. Our superb wine cellar makes your gourmet dinner perfect.
Our very hospitable personnel is looking forward to welcome you in the Hotel “Batzenhäusl”
